Scientific Advice on the Proposed Coal Mining Effluent Regulations

Coal Association of Canada

The proposed Canadian federal Coal Mining Effluent Regulations (CMERs) – the first of their kind - are being developed and planned for promulgation in 2021. As part of multi-stakeholder consultations with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Borealis has provided the Coal Association of Canada (Technical and Economic Committees) with expert scientific advice and technical coordination, related to various aspects of the CMERs, including: setting of effluent limits (for selenium, nitrate, total suspended solids), various elements of Environmental Effects Monitoring programs, and acute lethality toxicity testing and reporting.
