Selenium management for Alberta coal mines: state-of-practice review

In collaboration with McKenna Geotechnical Inc (Delta, BC), Borealis conducted and reported on a review of various mitigation and treatment strategies and practices used to support selenium management at coal mines, available to Alberta coal mines. The objective of the review was to provide the Alberta Coal Policy Committee, recently convened by the Alberta Government, with state-of-the-science /state-of-practice information regarding selenium management. Strategies applied at eight existing and proposed mines in Alberta and British Columbia were used as case studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of selected practices.
