Guy holds an MSc (Marine Ecology), and a BSc (Biological Sciences; minor Chemistry) both from the University of Guelph, and is a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in British Columbia.

Guy is a senior environmental professional with strong experience in the mining sector, with a focus on water quality. His most recent position, prior to establishing Borealis Environmental Consulting, was Vice President Environmental/Regulatory Affairs at Cardero Coal; during his two-year tenure, Guy oversaw and directed all pre-application Environmental Assessment activities associated with Cardero's Carbon Creek project in northeast BC, including baseline studies, permitting activities, and community consultations. Prior to that, Guy was Director, Environmental Science at Teck Resources; he had primary responsibility for ecological risk and environmental impact assessments, corporate biodiversity conservation programs, and dormant properties and contaminated sites assessment/management.

Guy has over 30 years experience in ecotoxicology and ecological and human health risk assessment, the former relating specifically to aquatic effects. He has also played project management and scientific roles in numerous environmental effects monitoring programs in aquatic ecosystems. He has also developed and evaluated ecotoxicity test methods.

In addition to his role as a Senior Editor of the journal, Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (Learned Discourses), Guy is a reviewer for the international journals, Science of the Total Environment, and Marine Pollution Bulletin. Guy is Steering Group Chair/Author of a section in “Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater”.

Guy currently serves on the Board of Directors for Wildlife Preservation Canada, Guelph, ON; and, Hanson College, New Westminster, BC.
